Creative Fun at the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts

Throughout the seasons at Walt Disney World, there is almost always a festival happening at EPCOT, and my personal favorite kicks off the year each January.  The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts is easily the most interactive and entertaining of the four festivals, and often the most overlooked. With Figment as your guide, experience the full palette of Broadway performances, interactive photo ops, and unique creative activities at EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts!

    The Art!

The highlight of this festival is simply the art on display – from classic paintings to pressed metal and crafted sculptures, there are so many different types of visual art showcased. Disney invites artists from around the world to create and display art specifically for this event, and you’ll find a plethora of unique pieces to admire.

Artist booths are set up throughout the World Showcase and around World Celebration, allowing guests to chat with artists, watch live paintings, or purchase art to bring home. While there are many pricey, extravagant pieces for sale at this event, you’ll also find small prints and postcards that also make great souvenirs. The artists rotate throughout the festival, with a full listing of dates and locations available here: Artists at 2026 EPCOT Festival of the Arts.

If you are a fan of Disney Parks history you might just see some notable names on this list – Tony Baxter, former VP of Walt Disney Imagineering and the lead creator of classic attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain, will be showcasing his art January 22 – 25!

One of my favorite areas of the festival is the chalk art on the promenade leading into the World Showcase. Rotating pieces line the sides of the walkway, and you can even catch artists hard at work on these. The most eye-catching visual attraction here is the illusion chalk art – carefully step “inside” these illusions and help bring the art to life! These pieces change throughout the festival — with no covering in this area and the occasional Disney Downpour, artists get many blank slates to work with over the course of the event. Guests can return throughout their visit to Disney World to see what new art has been created after a rainstorm.

    The Activities!

NEW! Quest your way through the Fest with the New Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game! Complete the Collection Quest and Ink & Find Scavenger Hunt, and earn complimentary trading cards as you find giant-sized Lorcana cards around the park.

    • Collection Quest: Trade Disney Lorcana cards with other guests at the Lumineers Lounge in Morocco, and receive a limited-edition Magical Places promo card.
    • Ink & Find Scavenger Hunt: Discover larger-than- life trading cards scattered throughout EPCOT. Find the cards, match them to the special ink stickers on your map, and receive a different limited-edition Magical Places promo card.

Wanna play? To take part in the Collection Quest and Ink & Find Scavenger Hunt:

    • Pick up your complimentary Festival Questbook on the bridge to World Showcase, available starting at 9:00 AM (while supplies last).
    • Play! Follow the guide in the Festival Questbook for both activities.
    • When your Questbook is complete, pick up your Magical Places promo cards from the Illumineer’s Lounge in the Morocco Pavilion, or from Figment’s Inspiration Station at The Odyssey.

Based on the crowd reports from today’s opening of the Festival (January 16) it seems like this is going to be a very popular activity and guests should plan to pick up their Questbooks early in the day.

Take a turn with a paintbrush as you join in on the creativity with the Paint by Numbers Mural! This free activity is actually a lot of fun – guests are given a small foam-tip paint brush and a ramakin of paint with a number on the cover. Cast members will then guide you to an empty/accessible area of the massive paint-by-numbers mural, and you can help complete a (team)work of art! You can do this multiple times throughout your visit to EPCOT if you want to contribute to another mural later in your trip – once a wall is completed, it’s replaced with a fresh set of squares featuring a different design.

Scattered throughout the park, guests can step into classic frames to become part of famous works in Artful Photo Ops! Cross the Delaware with George Washington in the America Pavillion, or become part of The Scream near Italy and Germany. There are PhotoPass Cast Members available at these locations for nice shots as well.

Younger guests can also take part in the creativity at the Kids Chalk Art area near the Imagination Pavilion. Available daily from 11am – 5pm, kids can get their creativity flowing and contribute to the Festival of the Arts with their own chalk masterpieces.

As you explore the World Showcase, keep an eye out for some of your favorite characters hidden in each pavilion. In the past I’ve found Luca and Alberto by the water fountain in Italy, Abu in the bazaar in Morocco, and Meeko and Flit from Pocahontas in America. I can sense a recurring medium here – this festival is chalk-full of fun!

My favorite activity at this festival is the Animation Academy offered at the America Gardens Theater. I am a huge fan of this experience at Animal Kingdom, but traveling out to Conservation Station is a bit of a time commitment. Having the class available right in the middle of the World Showcase is a fun and convenient way to learn to draw a classic Disney character from a real Disney animator. This is only offered twice per day at 12:30pm and 1:30pm, so plan ahead! Grab a clipboard, paper, pencil, and maybe a beverage, and create your own souvenir at this unique festival experience.

      The Live Entertainment!

All of the EPCOT festivals include live entertainment, but the International Festival of the Arts really showcases the value of the performing arts more than any other. In years past, this event has featured jazz musicians and acrobatic performances, as well as the Disney on Broadway Series. This year, there is a lineup of musical acts taking the stage in CommunicorePlaza. When you visit this festival, check the lineup of musicians ahead of time, so you don’t miss any of the action. More info will be added to this website as showtimes become available: EPCOT Festival of the Arts

The Disney on Broadway Series is a fun and convenient way to experience the talent of the Broadway artists – all included with the price of your admission to EPCOT! The performers listed below have all been featured in major Broadway productions of Disney classics, and there are a number of new acts this year. Check out the dates below to see who’s on tap for your visit to the International Festival of the Arts!

      The Treats!

While the art and entertainment on display is the real draw of the International Festival of the Arts, no EPCOT event would be complete without the proper snacks to go along with it. Known as Food Studios at this festival, the outdoor kitchens offer beautifully plated bites and sparkling sips that match the artful whimsy of this event. Think — a rainbow flight of hard ciders or a giant mozzarella stick with a “palette” of sauces (yes, even Italy manages to put out a great food item at this festival)!

Check out the foodie guide and menus here: 2026 Food Studios at EPCOT International Festival of the Arts!

Disney always makes a game out of eating at these events, and Festival of the Arts is no different. Pick up your free Festival Passport at any merchandise location in the park, and collect five (5) stamps as you taste the featured dishes on the “Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine.” The “prize” for completing this is usually another snack – last year, guests were given a Figment rice crispy treat for collecting all five stamps.

      Blink and You’ll Miss It!

EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts only runs for 39 days! That’s right – unlike International Flower & Garden Festival, or International Food & Wine Festival, which both last for about 3 months, guests only have a small window to visit this unique and imaginative event. From the artwork and entertainment to activities and themed snacks, this festival is a showcase of the creative elements that bring Disney itself to life! With the cooler temperatures and kids back in school, mid-January to mid-February is a great time to visit Walt Disney World as an adult group or a solo adventurer. Let’s start planning your next Magical Quest today!

    1. “Besides the Rides” – Edutainment for Everyone at EPCOT

“Besides the Rides” – Edutainment for Everyone at EPCOT

There is so much to do and see at the Walt Disney World theme parks besides the rides, and EPCOT just might have the most edutainment packed into one place. From aquatic animals and extensive greenhouses to a trip around the World Showcase, there’s something for everyone at EPCOT.

World Nature (Previously Future World West)

Welcoming guests since opening day in 1981, The Seas Pavillion, also known as The Seas with Nemo and Friends, is the second largest aquarium in the United States (and the ninth largest in the world) with 5.7 MILLION gallons of tank water. Inside SeaBase Aquarium, you can see over 60 species of fish, sharks, turtles, rays and manatees. Little ones can climb around in Bruce’s Shark World play area or check out the show Turtle Talk with Crush – a fun and interactive chat with your favorite sea turtle from Finding Nemo. For guests ages 10 and up who are open-water SCUBA certified, the recent return of EPCOT DiveQuest is a unique add-on experience that allows you to get up close and personal with the sea life at SeaBase Aquarium. Those of us who will remain on dry ground can catch a diver lock-out demonstration at 10:30am or 4pm. The timing of this 10-minute demonstration is subject to change; please check with a Cast Member in the aquarium for that day’s demonstrations. More Information about DiveQuest can be found here: Magical Quests – EPCOT DiveQuest

The Land Pavillion is the largest pavilion at EPCOT and covers over 6 acres! Within this pavilion guests will find one of the most accessible, family-friendly rides in EPCOT – Living with the Land. While this blog is technically about non-ride attractions at the park, I would be remiss not to mention this slow-moving educational wonder of Walt Disney World. Guests will board a slow-moving boat (transfer is only required for those using ECVs, power wheelchairs can fully board), and meander through various landscapes in the United States before entering the real highlight of the ride – the greenhouses.

As you float through the four abundant greenhouses (covering 2.5 million square feet of space), you’ll listen to a narrative about the plants growing here, as well as innovative ways the horticulture team at EPCOT is cultivating tasty fruits and vegetables to be used across property – from tomato towers to Mickey-shaped pumpkins! During Festival of the Holidays, this attraction turns into Glittering Greenhouses and is decorated root to blossom in lights and holiday décor, often seeing wait times skyrocket to 60 minutes or more, versus what is normally a 5 to 10 minute wait. For guests who are really into gardening, I can’t recommend enough the Behind the Seeds Tour – an hour-long ticketed tour through the greenhouses with an expert Cast Member leading the way. More information about the Behind the Seeds Tour can be found here: Magical Quests – Behind the Seeds

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is an interactive walkthrough experience, and great for every age group. Facts about the water cycle are featured on the journey as guests engage with water in fun and unique ways. Search for the characters from Moana’s story throughout the exhibit – there are actually 16 hidden characters featured in the rock work, and I have yet to find all of them. This attraction is a relief to walk through on a hot day to cool off, or at night to check out the enchanting hues of blue and green that come alive when the sun goes down.

World Celebration (Previously the Fountains of Nations location)

Recently revamped to include abundant space to sit and relax, World Celebration sits directly behind Spaceship Earth (a family-friendly, all-ages attraction) and gives this area a true “park” feeling. Guests can grab a coffee at Connections Café or a classic treat at the Festival Favorites Kitchen, and then relax in one of the dozens of shaded Adirondak chairs, high bar stools, or garden ledges. There are charging ports nearby, and guests can listen to ¡Celebración Encanto! or catch a performance by theJAMMitors drum ensemble in this area. This is also a great place to meet characters — guests can pop in to say hello to Mickey & Friends at Communicore Hall, and there is also a lovely statue of Walt in these gardens which makes for a great photo op.

World Discovery (Previously Future World East)

This is the one area of EPCOT that may leave non-thrill seekers looking for a merchandise shop to hang out in for a bit. There are three attractions in this area with height requirements, two of which come with intensity warnings as well. Guests who are prone to motion sickness will want to avoid both Mission Space and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Test Track (while family-friendly) has a 40-inch height requirement. (Also, guests who experience claustrophobia will want to skip Mission Space.)

If you have little kids with you that can’t ride these attractions, there is an indoor playground in the exit area of Mission Space called Space Base, with comfortable seating for adults. Guests can access the exit area without going through the queue or ride, and this is honestly just a great place to get out of the heat and sun if you don’t feel like walking around while friends or family ride another attraction. If you are into fast cars, the exit to Test Track showcases vehicles from the current sponsor (General Motors).

      World Showcase (Since 1981)

While the front of the park has seen a major face-lift over the last few years, EPCOT’s World Showcase retains most of its nostalgia from the early days, with a few recent, exciting upgrades and expansions. Each pavilion throughout the World Showcase will have tasty (close-to) regional cuisine, as well as cultural representations and history from their respective country. In Norway, visit the Gods of the Vikings House in the Stave Church replica, explore the House of Good Fortune store in China, or walk the “Romantic Road” path in Germany through the miniature train set (always a fan favorite). As you stroll along the promenade you could be drawn in by the sounds of Mariachi Cobre in Mexico, the Voices of Liberty in America, or the rotating band at the Canada Mill Stage between Canada and the UK.

My personal favorite World Showcase pavilion is Japan, and one of the highlights is the Mitsukoshi Department Store. This location is a smaller-scale replica of the real Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, which has roots in Japan all the way back to the year 1673! This location has everything from kimonos to bonsai trees, and chopsticks to Japanese candy. Visitors to Japan can also participate in (or just watch) the Pick-A-Pearl Experience, where guests can purchase an oyster to be opened by a Cast Member during a unique ceremony, revealing your new pearl inside. (Approx. $20 after tax – price is subject to change).

In my opinion, the best entertainment in the World Showcase is also in Japan: the Matsuriza drummers! This act showcases the power of taiko drumming and always draws a crowd when they take the porch outside the replica of the Horyuji Temple.

Most of the pavilions have a corporate sponsor involved with financing the building of the pavilion, but Morocco was funded, designed, and built by artists and artisans from Morocco and is the most accurate representation at the World Showcase. Walking through the Morocco pavilion really feels as though you’ve been transported to a different part of the world, with winding alleys and a bazaar tucked inside. The pavilion houses a replica of Koutoubia Minaret, a prayer tower that is part of Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakesh. Guests can also learn about ultra-marathon runners who trek across the Saharan Desert in the Race Against the Sun exhibit, or take a peaceful moment inside Fes House, a replica of a typical Moroccan home.

In my opinion, the pavilion with the most well-rounded attractions and dining is France. This pavilion was expanded in 2021, with the opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction, as well as a new restaurant, Le Creperie de Paris (which also has a quick service window).  Guests can also check out the Beauty and the Beast Sing-A-Long (which shares a theater with Impressions de France), meet Princess Belle throughout the day, pop into Les Halles Bakery for a delicious baguette or latte, or catch the mime street performer. For those with elevated tastes, Monsieur Paul serves gourmet French cuisine on a prix fixe menu, starting at $195 per person (tax + gratuity not included). There is so much to experience in this pavilion, even if you just grab a Grand Marnier Slush and people-watch while enjoying the background music of “La Vie En Rose.”

EPCOT is known for its International Festivals throughout the year, and nowadays most weeks have a festival happening, aside from the summer months. Each unique festival has different entertainment, seasonal kitchens, and themes to match.

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts might be my personal favorite festival (with Flower and Garden coming in as a very close runner-up) because of the unique entertainment, interactive exhibits, and of course, the many artists showcasing their talent. While there are some Festival Kitchens that pop up at this event, the real showstoppers are the musicians, acrobats, painters, and Disney on Broadway performers that bring this festival to life. Guests can watch artists complete “live painting” and participate in a paint-by-numbers mural. One of my favorite things to see is the chalk art illusions that guests can place themselves in for a fun photo-op! Blink and you might miss it – this festival only lasts for about 6 weeks from January 16 through February 23, 2026.

EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival is easily the most beautiful time of year at this park, with gorgeous gardens and towering topiaries scattered throughout. Each garden has unique theming, from prehistoric plants to the peaceful Shishi Odoshi garden. Some gardens even include ingredients for the dishes offered at the Festival Kitchens. This event runs from early March through early June (March 4 – June 1 in 2026).  Check out my blog about my favorite things to do at this floral festival!

EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival has been a fan-favorite for many years and this event is a must-do for anyone who considers themselves a foodie. Stroll along the World Showcase Promenade and sample cuisine from the year-round pavilions, as well as the pop-up Outdoor Kitchens that represent other areas of the world – from Hawaii to the Swiss Alps, these festivals offer even more opportunities to try tasty treats from around the globe. The Eat to the Beat Concert Series is always a big draw at this event, with acts like Boyz II Men, A Newfound Glory, and the Beach Boys taking the stage this year. This is the longest festival, which ran from August 28 – November 22, 2025, with similar dates expected for next year.

EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays is the one festival that I have yet to attend! This is the shortest festival, running from the day after Thanksgiving to the day before New Years Eve (November 28 – December 30 in 2025). Throughout the World Showcase, guests will hear storytellers sharing holiday tales from their respective country, or different Santas as they are represented in that area of the world – think, Barn Santa in Norway, Father Christmas in the UK, and Pere Noel in France. The Holiday Cookie Stroll is a fun way for guests to try sweet treats from these locations, collect a stamp for each, and earn a prize for completing the stroll. (Spoiler alert – the prize this year is a festival spatula with mini M&Ms! Great for the baker in your group!) Check out my Christmas blog for more holiday fun across all of the Walt Disney World parks and resorts!

The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow was Walt Disney’s last major idea, and those close to him say that he was using the grid-like ceiling of his hospital bed to map out the schematics for EPCOT in his final days. He famously said that “EPCOT would always be in a state of becoming,” and you can see that to be true nearly 45 years after the park first opened with the recent transformation of Future World East and West, the expansion of the France Pavilion, and new or upgraded attractions elsewhere like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and the latest version of Test Track.

I honestly have not even scratched the surface at this park, and truthfully – EPCOT is the reason I always have a Park Hopper added to my tickets, so I can pop in multiple times during my trip. With so many food and drink choices, the art and culture throughout the World Showcase, and the classic edutainment at the Land and Seas pavilion, there is an endless amount of fun to be had Besides the Rides in EPCOT.

Let’s plan your next edutainment-filled Magical Quest today!

    2. “Besides the Rides” – Fantasy and Fun for All at the Magic Kingdom

“Besides the Rides” – Fantasy and Fun for All at the Magic Kingdom

No trip to Walt Disney World is complete without a visit to the Magic Kingdom, and there is so much to do and see besides the rides at this classic park. Whether it’s meeting characters, seeing shows, or exploring the six magical lands, there is something for everyone, as you “enter a world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.”

#5. Family-Friendly Rides for All Ages

As the most visited theme park in the world (with an average 17.7 MILLION guests per year), Magic Kingdom needs to appeal to all ages, heights, and personal preferences. Because of this, there are many attractions at this park that are suitable for babies, grandparents, expectant mothers, people who experience motion sickness, and more. Some classic attractions for all ages and low-to-no intensity are:

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover: This is my favorite slow/casual ride at Magic Kingdom, and it is a perfect way to relax for a bit as you take a tour through Tomorrowland. There are some darker portions of the track where you can’t see in front of you, so that is something to be aware of for young guests who may be afraid of the dark.

WDW Railroad: This classic attraction also serves as a means of transportation around the park. Though currently only running to and from Fantasyland due to the multi-year construction of Villains Land behind Big Thunder Mountain, this is still an easy way to get from the back of the park to Main Street USA, or just casually enjoy a narrated train ride around the Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney himself loved trains and actually had his down large model train set in his yard for his personal enjoyment.

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress: This attraction was built for the 1964 World’s Fair and was moved to Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom in 1971. This is a 20-minute long “moving theater” attraction, that takes you through different decades in the United States, with a seasonal holiday highlighted for each turn of the room – think, Valentine’s Day in the Winter, Fourth of July in the Summer. Disney just announced at the 2025 D23 Fan Event that they will be adding a Walt Disney animatronic to this attraction, just as they have a new Walt animatronic out in Disneyland. In addition to the recently upgraded seats, this new technology will ensure this classic attraction keeps turning for years to come.

Here is a full list of “Any Height” Rides, which are suitable for babies, folks with mobility issues, and even service animals! (Yes, you read that correctly. Your service dog can join the 999 happy haunts at Haunted Mansion.)

      • Astro Orbiter
      • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
      • Haunted Mansion
      • “it’s a small world”
      • Jungle Cruise
      • Mad Tea Party
      • Magic Carpets of Aladdin
      • Main Street Vehicles
      • Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
      • Peter Pan’s Flight
      • Pirates of the Caribbean
      • Prince Charming Regal Carousel
      • Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
      • Under The Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid
      • Walt Disney World Railroad
      • Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

#4. Parades, Cavalcades, and Daytime Entertainment

Getting to see your favorite characters is a highlight of any Disney vacation. Sometimes the queues for these fan favorites can get long, or maybe the timing of their sets doesn’t quite work out with your Lightning Lane plans or the park you’ll be at that day. Luckily, Magic Kingdom has a couple of opportunities to wave to your friends and maybe catch a perfectly timed selfie. Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade seems to get bigger and bigger each year, and now includes Toy Story friends, Miguel from Coco, and even Bruno from Encanto

One of the best opportunities to see your favorite classic characters is during the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade. This daily celebration of fantasy features characters atop massive, themed floats from movies like Tangled, Peter Pan, Princess and the Frog, and Sleeping Beautyincluding a fire-breathing steampunk Maleficent dragon (my personal favorite). If you want a prime viewing location, it is worth arriving at the parade route at least 30 minutes before it begins, especially for bigger groups. The parade route itself begins in Frontierland next to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to make its way through the park to Main Street U.S.A.

Several times throughout the day, guests can catch Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire on the stage in front of Cinderella Caste. This cute musical show features hits from Tangled, Princess and the Frog, and more. Grab a snack from Casey’s Corner and secure a spot on the Hub grass for a midday picnic and a show. Since this happens multiple times throughout the day, guests can easily get a spot near the stage if you want to experience this show up-close.

Perhaps the most classic streetmosphere entertainment at Magic Kingdom is The Dapper Dans, a barbershop quartet. This group has been harmonizing on Main Street U.S.A. since the park opened in 1971 (and in Disneyland since 1955), and it is practically a Disney rite of passage to catch one for their performances throughout the day.

The Dapper Dans – an absolute must-see at Magic Kingdom

      #3. (Air-Conditioned) 3-D and Interactive Shows

There are a few different shows at Magic Kingdom that are great for the whole family. In Fantasyland, guests can catch a 3-D musical starring many of your favorite characters at Mickey’s PhilarMagic. With classic tunes and even some recognizable scents, this is one of the best 3-D shows on property and is often overlooked because of how many attractions are at this park.

Over in Tomorrowland, guests can participate in a live comedy show, hosted by Mike Wizowski himself, at Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. This interactive experience is a fun way to catch some air conditioning and take a break from the sun. While waiting in line, guests can submit jokes to be told during the show. Once Mike grabs the mic, anyone could be called on to take part in the comedy. This is also a Treat Trail stop during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party with an on-going show happening, and it’s one of the best candy locations in my opinion.

Guests can meet princesses like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella at Princess Fairytale Hall throughout the day, but a more unique character interaction can be found at Enchanted Tales with Belle. Over near Beast’s castle in Fantasyland, guests can experience a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story, with guests participating as characters in the story. After the show (which includes one of the best Imagineering effects in the park!), there is a meet and greet with Belle in her gold ballgown.

Other indoor shows for all ages offered at Magic Kingdom: Country Bear Jamboree, The Hall of Presidents, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

      #2. Explore!

A Pirates Adventure – Treasure of the Seven Seas: Available from 12pm – 6pm daily, this free scavenger hunt is fun and interactive way to explore Adventureland as part of Capt. Jack Sparrow’s crew! Solve puzzles and find hidden treasure as you quest through Adventureland. Make a whole pirate-themed afternoon of it and take a ride on the classic (family-friendly) Pirates of the Caribbean attraction before grabbing some provisions at the brand-new pirate-themed lounge, The Beak and Barrel. This treasure hunt is a TON of fun, and interacting with areas of Adventureland that I’ve walked right past before was a new-to-me experience that I will definitely try again.

In Fantasyland, young guests can seek out the Smellephants on Parade – cute elephant statues located throughout Storybook Circus each with their own themed scent. Grab a free guide from Big Top Souvenirs and use elephant stickers to track your progress. You’ll become an official Whiff-sistant as your discover the various scents “hidden” around this land.

For the Disney history nerds in your group, a slow stroll down Main Street U.S.A. (preferably with a sweet treat or iced coffee in hand) should be part of your plans for the day. Look up to see the windows dedicated to important figures in the Walt Disney Company, including a tribute to Frank Wells, President and COO of the Walt Disney Company from 1984 until his untimely passing in 1994.

      #1. Nighttime Fireworks

A day at Magic Kingdom isn’t complete without topping it off with a nighttime fireworks spectacular. Offered nightly during the “regular” season and on non-party evenings during the Halloween and Christmas party seasons, Happily Ever After is the quintessential way to wrap up a magical day at Walt Disney World. With epic fireworks and jaw-dropping projections, this fireworks extravaganza ties together classic Disney stories and intertwines songs from our favorite nostalgic movies. (I am not sure who decided to mash up Mufasa’s voiceover from The Lion King with “Go the Distance” from Hercules but it makes me cry every time.)

The best view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from inside the park (whether you are viewing Happily Ever After or one of the party night special shows), is in the general area between the top of Main Street by Casey’s Corner and the Plaza Restaurant, and the Partners Statue. This allows you to see the wide shot of the fireworks over the castle and catch many of the projections on the buildings on Main Street as well. This area will be very busy and many guests will arrive over 30 minutes prior to the fireworks to secure a spot to stand.

I personally prefer to avoid the dense crowds and tend to watch the fireworks from Fantasyland behind the castle or, believe it or not, outside of the park altogether. The Magic Kingdom Resorts along the Monorail all offer amazing views of the fireworks, and most locations will pipe in the music of the show so you can follow along. Some fantastic viewing locations are: The balconies on the Contemporary Resort near the bridge to Bay Lake Tower; California Grill at Contemporary Resort; the pool or beach area of Polynesian Resort; any of the restaurants with water-facing windows at Grand Floridian Resort. It’s important to note that you will not see the projections clearly at either of these angles. If that is important to you, you must watch from the Hub/Main Street U.S.A.

BONUS: Catch the Electrical Water Pageant as it cruises through the Seven Seas Lagoon throughout the evening, starting at 8:35p.

With over 25 attractions in this park, it is easy to get caught up in zipping from one queue to the next and timing your Lightning Lanes just right. I have found that the more I visit the Magic Kingdom, the more I want to make time for activities “besides the rides.” If you or someone in your travel group wants to slow down and soak in the magic, let me be your guide, and we’ll plan the perfect trip for everyone in your travel party!
